The Prix Galien USA Awards Ceremony launched in 2007, first honoring unique medical products, later devices, and finally, individuals who have impacted patient care through innovation. The Awards Ceremony and Dinner is held annually at the New York City Museum of Natural History during the evening following the Galien Forum, which launched in New York City in 2010 and has since been held every autumn the Alexandria Center for Life Sciences.
The Prix Galien USA awards prizes for therapeutics, including Best Pharmaceutical Agent (i.e. small molecule), Best Biotechnology Product, Best Medical Technology approved by the FDA in the past five years. As few as one or as many as three prizes may be awarded annually in each of these categories, and from time to time the Awards Committee may decide on awards hors prix. Prizes are awarded for products and agents that improve the human condition.
